Plastic bag as found object, 2023-in-progress
Once I saw a couple of cellophane bags streaking in the wind against the background of a city landfill, I remembered Marc Chagall’s painting “Above the City” and I wanted to try to go beyond the usual monotonous thinking and see the other side of the modern urban landscape. In my project I do not consider the problems of excessive consumerism or environmental pollution. My heroes are ordinary plastic bags, which are metaphorically endowed with new meaning and become characters in my own photographic paintings. Their practical value (storing or packing something) suddenly becomes aesthetic — they become a work of art.
The subtlety of the moment is that they will “outlive” both the original paintings of great artists and my photographic pictures.
